Business Licensing and Sales Tax
Overview
Centennial is a home rule city and began collecting City of Centennial sales tax on January 1, 2009. The State of Colorado is no longer the responsible agency for the collection of the City of Centennial sales tax.
Changes for vendors engaged in the business of selling at retail in the City of Centennial are the requirements to:
- Obtain a biennial (2-year) City of Centennial Retail Sales Tax or General Business License [download form]
- Collect the Centennial city sales tax (2.5 percent)
- Remit the Centennial Sales Tax collected on a separate tax return from the Colorado Department of Revenue return by the due date [download form]
The following has
not changed:
- City of Centennial Sales Tax Rate – 2.5 percent
- Property and Services that are taxable
- Exempt Sales
Combined Sales Tax Rate
The following is the break out of the combined sales tax rate for Centennial. The total rate is 6.85 percent.
The 6.85 percent includes the following:
- City of Centennial 2.5 percent
- State of Colorado 2.9 percent
- Regional Transportation District (RTD) 1.0 percent
- Football Stadium (FD) 0.1 percent
- Scientific and Cultural Facilities District (SCFD) 0.1 percent
- Arapahoe County Open Space 0.25 percent
The 2.5 percent City of Centennial Sales Tax must be remitted directly to the City of Centennial.
The remaining 4.35 percentage of the sales tax collected must be remitted to the Colorado Department of Revenue along with all applicable tax forms as required by the Colorado Department of Revenue. Additional information may also be obtained on the
