The Centennial Youth Commission is seeking new members

The City of Centennial Youth Commission is seeking applicants.

The Centennial Youth Commission was formed by City Council in July 2003 as a way to provide a voice for the City’s youth. The commission is composed of eleven teens from the City of Centennial, ranging in age from 13 to18.

The Youth Commission develops suggested ordinances, participates in city wide events, manages the Centennial Mayor’s Youth Corps, develops and participates in community programs, attends municipal conferences, performs community service projects, hosts youth events, and more.

“You learn a lot about local government as part of the Youth Commission. Each year the group implements new programs and continues to be a strong voice for teens to the City. The Youth Commission makes a difference in the lives of Centennial residents for years to come,” says James Clanton, Centennial’s staff liaison to the Youth Commission.

The Commission meets on the second and fourth Thursday of each month at 7 p.m. Youth Commissioners rotate attending Centennial City Council meetings on Monday evenings and Planning and Zoning Commission meetings on Wednesday evenings. Youth Commissioners also participate in City events, host youth events, and perform community service projects.

Applications may be downloaded from the City’s website, www.CentennialColorado.com, or picked up at the City offices. Interested teens should complete an application and return it to the attention of Brad Kearney, at the City of Centennial offices no later than 5 p.m. on Friday, July 15, 2011. It may be mailed, 13133 E. Arapahoe Rd., Centennial, CO 80112; faxed, (720) 488-0933, or emailed to bkearney@centennialcolorado.com.
